Nutrition Basics
"
Wellness through Nutrition"

Nutrition Basics was established to provide support and encouragement to anyone striving to make better food choices, and the best ones to support their current state of health.
Mary Wood,
RHN, owner of Nutrition Basics,  specializes in assisting people with food sensitivities and restricted diets to establish healthy eating habits using the foods that support their return to good health.

Getting back to basics is essential in getting back to good health - good, whole, natural, local and unprocessed foods, prepared in simple, and yet tasteful ways using natural herbs and spices for flavouring. Nothing tastes better, or is better for you. So, get back to the basics with Nutrition Basics.

Nutritional Councelling

Just as the vineyard grapes need proper conditions (soil, air, water, nutrients, etc.)  and support to be nourished and grow, so do we, to grow and flourish. Nutritional counselling is unique for each individual and is continually adapted as the individual is able to incorporate a larger variety of foods into his or her diet.

Cooking Demonstrations and Classes

Mary has training as a Chef Instructor and received her culinary training through Liaison College in Kingston.  Her goal in this capacity is to provide cooking classes and demonstrations for people struggling to incorporate new foods into their cooking repertoire.  Take an excursion to the supermarket to familiarise yourself with new food items, and learn how to select the best quality from what's currently available, or choose to leave it there. Learn to prepare meals that are fresh, wholesome and nourishing, while having fun at the same time!

Give your cupboards a good cleaning by tossing out all herbs and spices more than three years old. At that age or beyond, they may have lost their nutritional viability and the capacity to spice up your recipes! The best place to store spices and herbs is in a dark, dry and relatively cool place; far away from direct sunlight, and hot & humid spots close to stoves and dishwashers.
